Huawei is one of the leading tech companies in the world, as the Chinese manufacturer doesn’t only has its hands deep in the smartphone industry, but is also one of the global frontrunners in the 5G race. Huawei was on track to become a leading company worldwide, but it was stopped in its tracks, or at least slowed down significantly by the U.S administration. The US imposed sanctions on Huawei because of various security reasons pointed out by the country’s president Donald Trump, who then decided to offload Huawei from US services completely.
Huawei sales have been slowing down ever since Google pulled all of its services out of the phones from the Chinese manufacturer. Now that seems to get even worse for the company, as the UK has decided to ban Huawei completely from the 5G network that’s present and developing inside the nation. Huawei was previously providing its services to the UK in setting up its 5G network, but was kicked out of the programme due to the sanctions that were imposed on Huawei by the US. Digital and Culture Minister Oliver Dowden mentioned that the uncertainty around Huawei with its relationships with the US is the main reason they can’t trust the Chinese giant with future 5G development.
This move will hinder UK’s own 5G process, but it will still be a safer choice to opt for instead of staying with Huawei, as no one knows what other bans the manufacturer faces in the future, and it’s important to go with this decision to keep better contacts with the United States as well. All in all, it’s a major win for Donald Trump and the US, as they emerge as the victors of this situation.
