Sony announced the new Xperia 5 II on 17th September 2020 and is set to be launched on 29th September 2020. The smartphone combines the latest and greatest of Sony’s audio-visual technology from their high-end consumer products into a more compact form with the added bonus of a more affordable price tag. Though of course it isn’t exactly cheap as it retails for $949.
The Xperia 5 II features a 6.1-inch screen but as it is 2.68 inches wide, the phone seems to appear smaller than it is. It comes with a resolution of 1080x2520 pixels, an aspect ratio of 21:9 and a 120Hz refresh rate. The phone has a compact ergonomic design and fits comfortably in your hand or pocket.
The Xperia 5 II runs on Android 10 and packs a powerful Snapdragon 865 processor. It is powered by a 4000mAh battery and supports proprietary fast charging. In terms of memory, the smartphone comes with 8GB of RAM and 128GB of inbuilt storage that can be expanded via microSD card (up to 1000GB). The smartphone is a dual-SIM (GSM and GSM) smartphone that accepts Nano-SIM and Nano-SIM cards.
As far as the cameras are concerned, the Xperia 5 II hosts a triple lens camera with technology from Sony’s Alpha camera brand to deliver perfect portraits. It packs a 12-megapixel primary camera with an f/1.7 aperture; a second 12-megapixel camera with an f/2.4 aperture and a third 12-megapixel camera with an f/2.2 aperture. In the front, there is an 8-megapixel selfie shooter with f/2 aperture. Sony is claiming to be the first smartphone to be able to record slow motion at 120FPS in 4K HDR. n.
The Xperia 5 II features Sony’s best-in-class auto-focus for not only humans but animals as well. You are also able to capture unmissable moments that are always in focus thanks to the 20 frames per second continuous burst mode with auto focus and auto exposure tracking.
Sony’s pro video app lets you have a lot of control over video settings and to package clips into projects for easier editing. You can add dramatic and cinematic slow motion to your next video production. You will also have more professional sound whilst movie making thanks to Sony’s award-winning audio separation technology. With this feature you can capture the audio that you want without any other disturbances.
The gaming experience on this phone is superb. The high refresh and response rate, users can enjoy blur free viewing and more precision while gaming thanks to the 240 Hz touch response. As mentioned earlier, the phone has a 120Hz refresh rate but this can further be enhanced within Sony’s game enhancer settings to deliver a jaw dropping 240 Hz refresh rate and enjoy ultra-smooth game play.
If you are gaming whilst your phone is charging, then your phone may heat up. To counter this, Sony has added a heat suppression power control to prevent overheating
