The Snapdragon 778G is designed to bring an advanced mobile gaming experience and achieve a stunning photo and video shooting experience through enhanced AI.
In terms of imaging, the Snapdragon 778G supports three ISPs, which can shoot three photos or three videos simultaneously, including wide-angle, ultra-wide-angle, and zoom. Users can record video through three lenses at the same time. Not only can each lens capture the best results, but it can also automatically synthesize the three images into a professional-quality video.
Users can also shoot 4K HDR10+ video, capturing more than 1 billion colours. The Snapdragon 778G also supports a single-frame advanced HDR image sensor so that users can use HDR-calculated video shooting to obtain improvements in colour, contrast, and picture details.
In terms of AI, the Snapdragon 778G supports the new sixth-generation Qualcomm AI engine, including the Qualcomm Hexagon 770 processor, which can bring up to 12TOPS of computing power, double the performance of the previous generation platform, and improve the performance per watt. At present, AI can provide blessings for almost all connected experiences, video calls and voice calls, such as AI-based noise suppression and better AI-based imaging use cases. The dedicated low-power AI processor integrated into the second-generation Qualcomm sensor hub can support context-aware use cases, further enhancing the platform's performance.
In terms of games, the platform supports some Qualcomm Snapdragon Elite Gaming features, including Variable Resolution Rendering (VRS) and Qualcomm Game Quick Touch, which are currently supported in the Snapdragon 7 series platform. With Qualcomm Adreno 642L GPU, VRS allows developers to specify and group colored pixels in different game scenes to reduce GPU workload, thereby reducing power consumption while maintaining the highest visual fidelity of the picture. Qualcomm Game Quick Touch increases the touch response speed by 20%, reduces the touch delay while bringing a professional gaming experience.
In terms of connectivity, the Snapdragon 778G integrates the Snapdragon X53 5G modem and radio frequency system, which can bring millimetre wave and Sub-6GHz 5G connectivity to more users around the world. Through the Qualcomm FastConnect 6700 mobile connection system, the Snapdragon 778G supports multi-gigabit Wi-Fi 6 speeds (up to 2.9Gbps) and 4K QAM and supports 160MHz channels in the 5GHz and 6GHz frequency bands.
In addition, the Qualcomm Snapdragon Sound technology suite certified by Qualcomm Technologies uses advanced audio features and system-level optimization to achieve a new end-to-end listening experience. With Bluetooth 5.2, ultra-fast Wi-Fi 6/6E and 5G connections, the Snapdragon 778G can bring low-latency performance to scenes such as games, sharing and video calls.
In terms of performance, the Snapdragon 778G uses a 6-nanometer process to provide excellent performance and energy efficiency. The overall performance of Qualcomm Kryo 670 CPU has increased by up to 40%. The graphics rendering speed of the Adreno 642L GPU is up to 40% higher than the previous generation platform.
It is reported that after the release of the new platform, major manufacturers have shown their support for the platform. Among them, the new Honor 50 series will be equipped with the Snapdragon 778 mobile platform. Motorola will also use the platform to launch the first Snapdragon 7 series platform. In addition, we will soon see new phones from iQOO, OPPO, realme, Xiaomi and other brands equipped with Snapdragon 778G. From the timeline, commercial terminals equipped with Snapdragon 778G are expected to be available in the second quarter of 2021.
