Xiaomi has made sure that it’s considered a threat in the smartphone market by its competitors. Year in year out, Xiaomi has been making top-notch phones for its consumers, be it budget phones, mid-range phones or flagships. However, one unchartered territory for Xiaomi was going full-fledged in the flagship region, and not compromising on anything to cutback costs - something which helped the Chinese phone manufacturer gain the popularity that it has now. With the Mi 10 Pro, it does just that, by releasing a 999 dollar phone in the market, and giving users a reason to pass over Samsung, Apple and Huawei.
Just like you’d expect from a 2020 flagship, the Mi 10 Pro looks stunning to say the least. With gorilla glass 5 on the back and 6 in the front, you not only get a slick looking phone but also a well-protected one. Moreover, what we liked in this phone was the choice of a matte finish in the back instead of the usual glossy finish on most phones - this helps to keep away fingerprints, and your phone looks its best at all times. The pinkish accent on the white model is certainly our favorite one.
Xiaomi’s latest flagship is undoubtedly one of the fastest phones in the market, and the Antutu scores back that claim completely. The Mi 10 Pro has the highest Antutu score of any phone currently in the market - even the blazing fast OnePlus 8 Pro. Xiaomi’s own optimization along with the Snapdragon 865 helps the phone achieve this feat, giving you a flawless experience in the performance department. You can get either the 8GB or the 12GB variant, but even the 8GB variant is the fastest phone in the world, so we don’t think you’ll need an extra 4 gigs on top of that.
It may not have the best screen in the market, but it’s certainly pleasing to the eye. The FHD+ 1080p screen might not match other AMOLED panels like Samsung’s, but it’s one of the best 1080p panels we’ve seen. On top of that, a 90Hz screen refresh rate is a great addition on the phone as well. It may not match up to S20 or the Find X2 with their 120Hz display, but in all honesty, there isn’t that much of a difference between a 90Hz display and a 120Hz one. Plus, it gives you the battery benefit, and that’s an important aspect of daily phone usage.
The quad setup is definitely a huge improvement from previous Xiaomi models over the years. You get the option of a telephoto lens for that lossless zoom in pictures, a wide-angle sensor for those much loved wide-angle photos, a portrait sensor to help with background blur in portrait shots, and obviously the 108MP main shooter which is nothing short of brilliant. The Mi 10 Pro takes amazing photos in ample light, and the night mode is one of the best out of any phone camera. Moreover, the telephoto lens is the best-in class upto 10x zoom, and beats out phones like S20 Ultra with it’s end results. All in all, the camera will not disappoint you at all.
In the end, the hardware checks out on the Mi 10 Pro, and with the recent updates to the MIUI, and with MIUI 12 rolling out soon as well, the software side will be on point as well. A 4500 mAh battery with a relatively low resolution screen results in great battery life on the phone as well. On top of everything, Xiaomi also decided to throw on wireless charging on the phone too - a fresh addition.
So, performance, battery life, cameras, display (sort of) and build all being top-notch - what’s there to dislike about this phone?
Well, not much, and that’s why we’d suggest this phone to anyone willing to spend 999 bucks for a smartphone.
