Has Netflix ‘Sunk’ Gaming?
Only 1% of subscribers have engaged!
In 2021, Netflix announced its intention to make a strong entry into the world of gaming, integrating a new category into its streaming platform that enables its subscribers to play a range of titles. Already 25 games have been uploaded to the service, however, as the data so far shows, subscribers, seem to be turning their backs on the idea of gaming through the well-known platform.
According to the data collected by the company Apptopia, it is estimated that only 1% of Netflix subscribers have bothered to download even one game through the popular platform. Many analysts believe that one of the factors that prevent subscribers from getting involved is the small number of games, as well as the fact that they cannot run on PCs, Macs or some Smart TVs. The games currently available on the platform have been downloaded close to 23.3 million times. The titles that subscribers prefer are those associated with famous blockbusters, such as Stranger Things. It is worth noting that the immediate plan of Netflix is to increase the number of available titles to 50 (with Queen’s Gambit, which will draw its inspiration from the series of the same name, being among them).
