Google procured a 7.7% stake in Jio in 2020 and agreed with Jio to produce cheap entry-level smartphones.
According to ET Telecom, Google CEO Sundar Pichai (Sundar Pichai) said at a virtual conference held with reporters from the Asia-Pacific region, ‘We are working with Jio to launch Inexpensive smartphones jointly.’ Although, Pichai did not reveal the launch date or any details of the phones.
In 2020, Google acquired a 7.7% stake in Jio, approximately value at US$465 million. Google also signed an agreement with Jio to develop a cheap entry-level smartphone jointly. Google’s investment in Jio is part of the ‘Google India Digital Fund’ that Google announced last year. In July 2020, Pichai also announced plans to invest approximately US$ 10 billion in the coming five to seven years to expedite the application of digital technology in India.
It was reported at the recent Google I/O conference. Google introduced new features for the Android 12 system, including new privacy settings, unique appearance and animation effects, and AI applications. Google CEO Sundar Pichai said that these new features would appear on the smartphones jointly launched with Jio this year.
